Employment Options After Completing Your Licensed Practical Nurse Course

When you take a nursing program course, there’s always a confusion of what kind of jobs will be available after you become a licensed nurse. So, if you’ve been going through this confusion of what sort of jobs are available for a licensed nurse, here’s a brief about each sector that hires LPN’s for their own reasons:

Nursing Home & Private Clinics:

One of the most common and frequent recruiters of LPN’s are undoubtedly nursing homes. Most people after accredited nursing programs tend to apply for vacancies in nursing homes and even elderly care facilities. The fundamental duties of an LPN in a nursing home is to provide care to the patients who are admitted due to some acute illness or some temporary ailment. Providing emotional and physical support to the patients is expected from the recruited LPNs. Some other tasks associated with LPN in a nursing home are monitoring patient chart, administering medication, take notes of patients health, and provide assistance to the patients in their everyday tasks such as changing clothes etc.

Long Term Care Facility:

It’s also referred to as nursing at home. There are patients that attain a chronic condition of their diseases, which may force them to be under the supervision of a medically accredited nurse. Moreover, there are other kinds of patients who get stable in the hospital but then are sent to a rehabilitation center for further recovery (for instance, stroke patient). Such patients mostly demand an in-charge for themselves. Mostly, LPNs are hired by the long term care facility wing of several hospitals or private centers to take care of the patients at some other place, such as their home or rehabilitation center. Their shifts may vary from 8 to 12 hours a day.

Home Care and Rehabilitation are two subsets of long term care facilities that demand the expertise of LPNs. Most rehabilitation centers require therapists to assist their patients to gain back their skills. Hence LPNs or RNs are asked to work side-by-side for such patients by caring for them and assisting them to attain their original health.

Similarly, there are several complex cases (mainly with senior citizens or a patient with a chronic accident) which require professionals to take care for them. Such patients are mostly moved to their houses and LPNs pay a visit to their home to offer patient education. Mostly the shift timings for home care professionals may be a couple of hours each day or a week. However, it also depends on how serious the patient is.

School:

You’ll be amazed to know that numerous schools and colleges may appoint an RN or LP on a part-time or full-time basis for their institution. The tasks acquired by the LPNs includes taking care of younger students in case they fall ill during the school/college hours, providing treatment and episodic care for minor illnesses (like a sore throat, fever, vomiting). It can also include analyzing the health condition of the student and reporting any case of urgent care or emergency.
